TREKKING IN NEPAL/
Dolpo Region
:
DOLPO
Trek:
Possibly the last sanctuary of Bon-Po, a shamanistic religion
that predates Buddhism, Dolpo was opened for trekking in 1989.
This region is unmatched for its pristine beauty and rugged
charm, where one can encounter the virtually untouched and
unexplored nomadic people and their lifestyle.
Lying in the rain shadow area of the Himalayas, the landscape
resembles that of the Tibetan Plateau, Dolpo is closely linked
with the frontier of Tibet, contrary to the lush, green and
monsoon watered hills elsewhere in Nepal.
Rare Himalayan animals like the Snow Leopard, Tibetan Hare,
Himalayan Weasel, Blue Sheep, Thar, Himalayan Black Bear and
Himalayan Wolf inhabit the Shey-Phoksundo National Park, which
derives its name from the turquoise blue lake at its heart and
the ancient Gompa (special permit required for entry) lying
within the park area are the focal points of the trip in the
backdrop of the panoramic Kanjiroba Himalaya.
DOLPO, MYTH & MAGIC TREK:
16 Days -
Strenuous - Maximum Elevation 5115m.
Dolpo, the magical region of 'Snow Leopard', is unique in its
own ways. The arid valleys with their pastel hues offer a
spectacular contrast to the semi-tropical lushness of other
parts of Nepal. Isolated from the modern world, Dolpo is home
to the people of Tibetan origin living much the same way as
they did for centuries. Dolpo offers the unique experience of
bygone pioneers — adventure, ruggedness and solitude.
Phoksundo Lake (3627m) is the highlight of the trek, a basin
of turquoise blue ringed by rocky crags and forest, framed by
snow-capped peaks.

through terraced wheat, barley and potatoes fields to Sherpa
Gaon. From Sherpa Gaon the trail leading through numerous
hamlets, forests and Mauri La (4326m) reaches Kagmara Phedi.
Starting early from Kagmara Phedi and crossing Kagmara La
(5115m), the highest point in the trek, you are avail to
magnificent views of the Kanjiroba Himal. If you keep a sharp
lookout, you may sight the Himalayan Black Bear, the Red
Panda, Snow Leopard or the elusive Himalayan Wolf on the climb
to Kagmara La. The next day the trail leads to Ringmo, where
one can explore Lake Phoksundo area including the Ringmo
monastery. Leaving Ringmo, the trek goes through Aakhe, Juphal
and Dunai, from where you board the flight to Nepalgunj and
Kathmandu.
This trek crosses two high passes. Kagmara La is the more
