TREKKING IN NEPAL/
Langtang Region
:
LANGTANG VALLEY
The Langtang Valley is the second largest among
Nepal's National Parks. Situated north of Kathmandu on the
Tibetan frontiers, it covers an area of 1700 sq. km.
Designated a National Park in 1976, it is the natural habitat
of more than 1000 plants, 150 species of birds and number of
mammals such as Blue Ship and rare Red Pandas.
Two major river systems Trisuli and Sun Koshi
rush through the lush forests, and owing to its proximity to
Kathmandu is among the most easily accessible trekking
destinations. The eight-day Langshisha tour offers rich
insights into the life and culture of the Sherpa community,
who depend on agriculture and Yak rearing. Amongst the least
crowded trekking destinations in Nepal, it is most suitable
for those who do not have an extended vacation.
LANGSHISHA ESCAPADE: 15 DAYS
Ave.
Moderate - Maximum Elevation: 4,084m
Starting from Kathmandu you drive for about
seven hours in a Land Rover to Syabrubesi. From there you
continue on foot for a little while to camp at Sherpa Gaon.
From Sherpa Gaon the route proceeds northwest towards Kyanjin
Gompa (3479m) via Bagar. All throughout the Langtang Himal
dominate the skyline with Langtang Lirung at an impressive
7246m. Upon reaching Kyanjin Gompa you can hike for a day to
Langshisha Glacier (4084m). The following day, a day's hike
reaches Yala, whilst upon return you could visit the Monastery
at Kyanjin and the government-owned cheese factory built with
Swiss assistance. The factory utilises milk from a cross
between a Yak and a cow to produce cheese, which is supplied
to Kathmandu and the surrounding areas. The return route
differs slightly, as it goes via Lama Hotel and Syabrubesi
from where you drive back to Kathmandu. This trek goes across
the pleasant valley at the base camp, where a glacier ends.
Maximum elevation is 4,480m.

Helambu, which lies to north of Kathmandu is an
area inhabited by the Sherpas. This middle-hill Sherpa village

Sherpas of this region are different from those inhabiting
Solukhumbu.
During the full moon in June/July thousands of
devotees come to Panch Pokhari, the five holy lakes at 4050m.
The towering Jugal Himal is a chain of peaks, inclusive of the
magnificent Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Madiya (6257m), Phurbi
