[WILDLIFE SAFARI & NATIONAL PARKS]
Nepal, a land of extreme geographical contrasts, is an
ultimate safari destination. Within a mere 150km (the breadth
of Nepal), the land rises from near sea level in the south to
the highest point on earth at 8848 meters. Thus, this
beautiful country is home to every possible climatic zone. A
strong and responsible conservation effort has been initiated
to reverse the changes brought in by the effects of
modernisation, and to date about 14 per cent of Nepal's total
land mass area has been or is in the process of being
designated protected areas.
Wade through tall elephant grass, clicking memorable pictures
at one of the best preserved habitats of the endangered great
one horned Rhinoceros and the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, the
sloth bear, wild boars, over 400 species of birds.
There is more to Nepal than the soaring mountains of the
Himalayas. The southern region or the Terai belt, which
borders on the vast plains of the Ganges, is home to fine
National Parks and protected areas with some of the richest
wildlife in Asia.
The country boasts almost 10% of the world bird species with
over 800 varieties of wet land, migratory and resident birds
they include koklas, giant hornbills, redheaded trogons,
paradise flycatchers, herons, kingfishers, Tibetan snow cocks
and many species of pheasants, herons, egrets, warblers and
babblers.
There are 14 national parks and wildlife reserves in the
Kingdom. They provide one of the world's major habitats for
endangered species like one-horned rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger,
snow leopard, blue-clouded leopard, red panda, blue bull, blue
sheep and the long-snorted fish eating gharial crocodile. The
Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park and the Royal Chitwan
National Park are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

WILDLIFE SAFARI EXCURSION:
Three days easy - Maximum Elevation: 180m
In Nepal, you can see a variety of wildlife, the most famous
park being Chitwan. Formerly a hunting reserve for the
Nepalese royalty and nobility, conservationists have
transformed it into a national park where visitors can take a
wildlife safari into the jungles and see animals up close in
their natural environment. Royal Chitwan National Park and
Royal Bardia National Park offer rewarding jungle experiences
for wildlife viewing in Asia. Through the towering grassland,
an elephant will take you in the search of animals such as the
great one-horned rhinoceros, leopards, wild buffalo, sloth
bears, guar, monkeys, crocodiles and hundreds of different
bird species. Many animals are endangered and Nepal has
provided a habitat for their continued existence and
population growth.
While the high Himalayas makes up Nepal's northern region, the
southern lowland known as the Terai covers the dense tropical
jungles teeming with diverse wildlife and exotic birds. Here
you will find some of the most exciting safari destinations in
the world. You will be going deep into the jungle on elephant
back or on a four-wheel drive to view wild animals in their
natural habitat. Canoe rides in the Jungle Rivers, Nature
Walk, Bird Watching excursions and Village Tours are other
thrills.
Go out to view game — on elephant back, take nature walks with
knowledgeable guides and ride dugout canoes during the day. At
night — sit by the campfire, sip a Tiger's Tail, watch tribal
dances of the Nepali lowland, gaze at the stars and take in
the essence of life in the wild.
